Georgio Garcia was born in Cuba but emigrated to U.S.A. at early age. Studied classical guitar in Havana. First encounter with the art world was as a Bass player for a rock band ( Contraband). He studied Photography at Miami Community College.

Worked as a freelance for various publications, but his true passion was art photography. Created Chimera Studios, as a fashion photography that soon branched to a publication for the Youth called Frenzy Magazine. This unique idea was inspired by his work in the news outlets focusing only on the negative. His publication was focusing on the students’ art inclinations and a way to raise the self esteem of the youth. But it wasn't enough; something was still unfulfilled about him. He tried your hand at painting, creating some interesting art works. Until an unfuntional accident found him bed ridden. And the poet was born.

Interviewer: Vassiliki V. Pappa

Vassiliki V. Pappa: You were born in Cuba and later emigrated to the U.S.A. at an early age and you have been living there since then. What was it like growing up in Cuba and the U.S.A.?

Georgio Garcia: Growing in Cuba was a school of adaptation and rebelling against everything, starting with my family. Suffered from racism in my own family by being the only dark skinned in the family and this traumatized my infancy. Emigrated to U.S and the same problem followed me here kind of disguised by the opulence and neon light. That led me to become a rock and roll musician as a way to express my rebelling against the machine.

Vassiliki V. Pappa: Your poetry collection “Lost inside my world” is going to be published by Amazon. How did you choose the title, what inspired you to write the poems of the collection?

Georgio Garcia: The Book “LOST INSIDE MYSELF”: The title was born as my journey trough my quest for a love that never had a feeling and was never experienced. Almost a compilation of my quest to discover my inner self and the struggles with depression. Writing is my therapy against my mental illness.

Vassiliki V. Pappa: Are there any poets who influenced you in whatever period of time? Who do you think are the leading poets of our time and why?

Georgio Garcia: Honestly, I don't have any influences on poetry. Casually, I read Maya Angelou, Oscar Wilde and Edgar Allan Poe, and I admire the writing of Pablo Neruda. I'm a self made, with my own style or brand of poetry.

Vassiliki V. Pappa: You have studied classical guitar and participated as a bassist in the rock band “Contraband”. When did you first get involved with music and what led you to it?

Georgio Garcia: As a musician, painter and writer, my art belonged to the people. That’s the reason why I promote myself writing some of my work of poetry on the internet (FB) but it would be wonderful if my book allowed me to live of my writings. Artists deserve to make profits from the work we do. Maybe some don't understand the meaning of the work, called abstract, were everybody sees and understands what their mind see.

Vassiliki V. Pappa: Photographer, musician, painter, magazine editor, poet. Which of all these properties are you mostly passionate about? How would you describe yourself?                           ACAVATO

Georgio Garcia: I am very passionate about everything! I do because a piece of me is expressed in everything. Photography allows me to see the world the way I see it on my mind. Painting allows me to create the world I want, poetry allows me to express what sometimes I can’t say.

Vassiliki V. Pappa: Which is the most important: what we read, what we learn or what we experience?

Georgio Garcia: Ironically, my poetry is more about longing for what I don't have or what could have been but never was. To me, woman is the most perfect creation of all and my poetry is an ode to them.

Vassiliki V. Pappa: Finally, if we changed roles and you asked the questions, what question would you ask yourself?

Georgio Garcia: Life is a learning experience. Everyday we learn about our choice companion, about ourselves, about the world and life we live. If we change roles my first question would be:  “When I will find what I’m looking for or if I even know what it is. Thank you for the opportunity to be part of your publication and for being a gracious reporter. Art has no rules!
