Lorraine Lebrun studied interior architectural, worked for various decorators, then became a designer for clothes and furniture. Afterwards, she stopped working and raised 3 children, she started painting for pleasure.

She mainly painted the seaside (boats, beach scenes). She lives at the seaside in western France in Brittany and exhibits in Britain about 3 times per year.

Interviewer: Vassiliki V. Pappa

Vassiliki V. Pappa: Lorraine, what did you study and what future plans did you have when you were 20 years old?

Lorraine Lebrun: When I was young, I wanted to be an interior decorator, and that's why I spent 4 years studying at the "Camondo school" in Paris. I worked for several decorators, designing clothes and furniture. Then, I stopped working and raised 3 children. A Few years ago I started painting for pleasure.

Vassiliki V. Pappa: What is painting for you and when did you decide to take up painting?

Lorraine Lebrun: Painting is a form of expression, a way to free the mind, to escape daily worries for me.... It's also sometimes satisfying to see my paintings succeed in interesting people and raise questions and create a social link, cultural and human.

Vassiliki V. Pappa: What is the process of creating your own painting? What is it that inspires you and what are your favorite subjects?

Lorraine Lebrun: I mainly paint the seaside (boats, beach and sunny scenes, sunny Portraits), probably because I live in the west of France, at the seaside in Brittan: a lovely French province full of character and charm  ...

Vassiliki V. Pappa: During your exhibitions how important is the public opinion for you?

Lorraine Lebrun: I like further advice and professional opinion, I love the spontaneity of the neophytes who do not clutter technique and speak from the heart and that's what matters to me first ...

Vassiliki V. Pappa: France is a country that produces culture. Do you think that artists produce culture?

Lorraine Lebrun: France is a land of culture that gave us a lot of geniuses, as Italy or Greece ... I don't pretend, unfortunately, to be a part, but I think that every painter, musician, writer even with their modest works, etc ... contributes to the French culture ... But I do not think that French culture is an exception ... Every country in the world has talents and geniuses. Also, each state showcases what its artists can bring in value through the media and infrastructure...

Vassiliki V. Pappa: Is painting making a progress in France and who is your favorite painter?

Lorraine Lebrun: My favorite painter is Pierre Soulages, probably because his works do not look like me at all ... Joking aside, Soulages is a painter who does not belong to any school, so free in his artistic expression, his work is resolutely contemporary ... His "black", evoke the power in simplicity, his contrast to that faculty to reveal the other even dull colors  ...

Vassiliki V. Pappa: Have you regretted anything  in your life since you got involved in painting?

Lorraine Lebrun: The only regret in my "artistic" life is only one: not to have started painting earlier..., which would have allowed me to progress and moved faster, better cope with stress and the hazards of life ... but that's life..
